Latest Updates from Our Project:

New Add-Ons!
over 7 years ago – Mon, Oct 10, 2016 at 11:29:40 PM

First off, I am VERY excited we made that second stretch goal and again offer sincere thanks to each of you wonderful backers who made it possible.

We've been trying to come up with more options to offer you, so we sat down and did the math, and figured we had a few other possibilities for increasing Lovecraft Inspired Libraries.

For adding $150 to your pledge, you can now get either of the books below.

Want them both?

Add $275 to your pledge and you can have both books listed below!

Book #1

A reprinted version of Poligraphia, by the Monk Johannes Trithemius

This is the scanned text of the actual book published circa 1499 now reprinted on antiqued paper and bound in goat hide. It was listed as banned by the Catholic Church from 1609 to 1900, and is mentioned in the H.P. Lovecraft story "Dunwich Horror". Approximately 276 pages long, it will be printed on thinner paper than the Spell Book, but the paper will still have deckled edges and will be yellowed as parchment paper.

Book #2

A reprinted version of De Furtivis Literarum Notis by Giovanni Battista della Porta

This is the scanned text of the actual book published circa 1563 now reprinted on antiqued paper and bound in goat hide. It is a book about cryptography and is mentioned in the H.P. Lovecraft story "Dunwich Horror". Approximately 256 pages long, it will be printed on thinner paper than the Spell Book, but the paper will still have deckled edges and will be yellowed as parchment paper.

Two great additions to a Lovecraft inspired library.

Now with Backerkit!
over 7 years ago – Mon, Oct 10, 2016 at 06:11:17 PM

I've gotten a lot of messages about post KS add-ons and I've decided to go forward with using Backerkit to help manage everything after the KS ends.

In addition, I'm hunting down local metal workers to see what we can do about a metal clasp for at least the $300 level deer-hide books.  We may not have this worked out before the KS ends, but if it does work out, we'll add that as an add-on (or freebie, depending on how much it costs to do) as well.

Under the update with the new Add-ons I answered a few questions about the new books, if anyone is interested.

And finally, in the spirit of spreading the word of Lovecraft-related projects, you might want to take a look at this one too...

Also, you all rock.

OK, I'm going to let you in on a little something.

A big motivation for this Kickstarter, is that some time in the not to distant future, some specific time between Production and Shipping, there will come a moment.  And during that moment, that single special instant in time, one room of my house will be the coolest frekkin library in all of North America.

Very Close

As we approach the second stretch goal, I'm a little excited I might get a chance to put out that extra information.  I did a lot of research on the material in the book, and spent $0.30/word on Latin translations, and I think that's worth sharing.

I'm going to be adding some more add-ons soon, starting with the option to get some of the pages printed separately outside of the book. I've gotten a lot of queries on the separate pages, and why they are worth getting. Their biggest benefit is they can act as hand outs in a game that hint at the bigger book. They are also printed on the thick 100% cotton antiqued paper, and are also suitable for framing.

With the third stretch goal not too far in the distance, I'd like to hear what other add-ons or stretch goals you might like to see.  So please don't hesitate to post suggestions here on send me private messages on the side.

Thank you again wonderful backers!

Did you download the free font?
over 7 years ago – Fri, Oct 07, 2016 at 11:02:41 AM

While all of the content of these spells books was created by hand, quill, and inkwell, I did create a font of the R'lyehian alphabet 1) Because I thought it would be cool to have a font of the R'lyehian alphabet and 2) so I could print out the text I wanted to write and use it as a guide as I was transcribing the book.

The font is based on H.P. Lovecraft's description from Through the Gates of the Silver Key, where he writes

  • It hangs down from “horizontal word lines”
  • It is hieroglyphic in nature
  • It is not like Naacal (i.e. ancient Mayan)
  • It is not like the hieroglyphics of Easter Island (Rongorongo)

The next most obvious hieroglyphics after that would be Egyptian, so putting all that together translated to something that combined a Devanagari style with symbols that could have eventually led to the Egyptian hieroglyphics (adding vowels, which ancient Egyptian didn't have).

Anyway, you are welcome to download them and play with them for FREE.  They work best on things other than Office if you want to see the cool ligatures.  The ligatures (where letters combine to form new letters) work in Photoshop, for example, but not Word or Excel, etc.

You can get the font in two varieties here
